So the Boys under 16 double, Wellington College No 2 have the distinction of being the first official swimmers of the week at 8.30 am on monday. Must be one of the earliest for a regatta. As always the safety team were soon on the case.
As they were towed across the line the following race was bearing down on the finish with the St Thomas of Canterbury crew involved in a tight finish in lane 6. There was a frantic umpire racing up to warn them of the impending collision but fortunately they were able to cross the line at full steam and then put the brakes on quickly.
No reports about the water temp but to add insult finishing last in the heat eliminates the crew from the regatta!
